Air Banana Cold Dog Entertainment Flush Girl Hello Impossible Jog Korea Lord Master No Obey Press Quest Request Speak Time Umbrella Venom Winter X-ray Yellow Zip
[Story for Mere Entertainment]
In a cold, cold winter night, a girl was wandering around the street with a yellow coat that seemed to shine in the dark. She was all alone when a boy came jogging to her with an umbrella in his hand. He said hello but the girl wouldn’t reply him back. He stood there in silence for a few minutes before zipping up his winter jacket fully up to his neck almost covering his mouth. He stuck out his hand with the umbrella to her and said “Take this.” That was when the girl looked up to him. She flushed. The boy wasn’t sure if it was because of the cold or because of him but he kept going. “Master won’t change his mind easily. The time is late, so you should go back.” “No. I will stay until he does.” the girl replied. “Actually, master sent me here to send you back home.” the boy said. “I won’t take a step from here until I see Master.” the girl replied. Then, a man in brown robe came walking towards them. The cold wind didn’t seem to bother him. “Now girl, if you so strongly will.” he spoke in a low voice. “Master.” the boy spoke. “You shall go in quest of the golden banana. The golden banana belongs to Lord Gwail living in the deep forest of South Korea. He values his golden banana so much he keeps it in the most inner room of his castle. There is an anaconda, long as a half kilometer and as fierce as a lion. It possesses venom that can kill in less than 3 seconds once you are bitten. Not only that, he has a dog, not an ordinary dog of course. It possesses the ability to make you obey it only by making an eye contact.” He stared at the girl and continued “Can you do that?” “Yes,” the girl replied without hesitation. “Well then, there is no time to waste. Go on!” said Master. “Wait! Let me go with you.” said the boy. “I know a secret about that castle. I know I will be a lot of help.” the boy said. “What is it?” asked the girl. “I will only tell you when you promise you will take me there with you.” said the boy. “Yes, I will, so will you please tell me what the secret is?” the girl urged. “I have heard that you can disable both the anaconda and the dog from hurting you if you press the golden button hidden only where Lord Gwail knows.” the boy said. “Okay, let’s leave now after getting an x-ray check at the nearby hospital.” said the girl. “What for? the boy asked. “I know you have a broken knee. Let’s go have a look and we’ll go on with our adventure.” the girl answered. As they were heading for the hospital, Master stopped them. “Alright, now that I’ve tested your will, you are welcome to join me in the temple.” he said.
Sweet Little Lies
As kids, we’re told, time and again, that lying is wrong. Do you believe that’s always true? In your book, are there any exceptions?
First of all, I lie every day. It is for small and big reasons, so if you ask me if lying is always wrong, I’d say no. Note the italics I used for the word “always”. I admit that the reason I lie most of the time is for my own benefit and comfort. However, there are times I lie so the other person will feel better and comfortable with me, so in my book, there are exception.
Life can be so much easier with lies. I’ve confirmed it when I read the book Divergent (first book of the Divergent series) by Veronica Roth and Extras (last book of the Uglies series) by Scott Westerfeld. In the book Divergent, there is a factor called Candor and they do not lie, ever. They are the people who believe honesty is the most important element in a human. With honesty, they believe the world will be a perfect place. However, when they meet others, they are easily hated because they make unnecessary unpleasant situations with their honesty. I don’t quite remember but they say something like “You lack knowledge” or “You’re ugly” because they were raised to speak of truth. Therefore, I do believe sweet little lies are necessary for amicable social activities. In the book Extras, there is a character that gets an injection of a potion that makes you speak only the truth at all times. He did this because he believed he was too weak to speak the truth with his own willpower. He has good intentions, but he gets his friends in danger because he cannot keep secrets. When he and his friends were caught in an enemy’s spaceship, he couldn’t keep the truth to himself and confesses that he and his friends are here to stop them from their mission while his friends were lying to the enemies. This example was a bit exaggerated, but it is important to keep secret and there are times you have to say “I don’t know” when you do know!
Ready, Set, Done!
Set a timer for ten minutes. Write without pause (and no edits!) until you’re out of time. Then, publish what you have (it’s your call whether or not to give the post a once-over).
Since I’ve only got 10 minutes, I’ll write about today. Like a diary! Today was the first day of school after Christmas break. I had not slept a single minute yesterday before going to school because my day and night has completely reversed during the holidays. I slept at 8 AM and woke up at 4 PM during the breaks. In this condition, I worried that I’d fall asleep in most classes today. However, I did not feel sleepy at all. Okay, maybe later in the last two periods I lost it, but I did better than I expected. Also, my dad came pick me up after school so I didn’t have to take the bus and fall asleep there. This was amazing. (I love you Daddy <3) At school, I had so much fun with Mink. We chatted most of the hours, even in class. We also had the amazing experience of waiting in the wrong room for about 7 minutes (5 too short and 10 too long, haha). When we realized, we darted back to our classes and changed our books for the right subject. We had been waiting in Accounting class when the class was going on in World History class. It was so funny. I had lots of fun on the first day, I hope I will for the rest of the year. Please let me have that, please~
Under the Snow
You were caught in an avalanche. To be rescued, you need to make it through the night. What thought(s) would give you the strength to go through such a scary, dangerous situation?
Caught in an avalanche?!! I’d be terrified! Firstly, it would be magnificently cold – so cold that you don’t even want to breathe because your nostrils sting of the cold, freezing air. I’ve not met snow a lot of times since I lived in Thailand for over 10 years. The last time I’ve seen snow was few years back when I visited my grandma in Korea, South, of course (many people actually ask me this), so imagine how vulnerable I am to the freezing weather. Secondly, I’d lose hope quickly. I wouldn’t even have any idea of the current situation outside. Would people be looking for me now? Is the snow storm too fierce to go on with the search? Do the people even know I’m missing and currently stuck in an avalanche? All these questions I don’t have an answer to will leave me very nervous and devastated. I’d have no clue at all. Silence would be so cruel and I’d lose hope eventually. I’d be worried if anyone will ever find me and if they do, will I still be alive or would I be found as a cold corpse. *Shivers*
What thoughts might give me the strength to go through such a scary, dangerous situation? I don’t know.. Maybe my fear of dying might keep me alive? I think the hope of being able to be rescued the next day will give me strength to endure the cold and fear. I’d tell myself morning is coming, the night is almost over. Also, very importantly, the images of my family and friends would glimmer. Thinking about people I love, how much they would be sad and devastated if I couldn’t survive the avalanche would make me do my best with full power to stay alive. How wasted would my life be if I died after all the education, knowledge and life experience I’ve learnt and built up without even fully living the life yet?
We’ve all been asked what five objects we’d take with us to a desert island. Now it’s your best friend’s (or close relative’s) turn to be stranded: what five objects would you send him/her off with?
First of all, water. Wait, no! Not water. I’d send him ocean water desalination machine. Everyone knows water is the first survival item, so I’d provide him limitless quantity of water since water is all around the island. Without water, you wouldn’t survive for a day. Secondly, chocolates and canned food. Maybe this depends on what island my best friend or close relative is going to. If he or she is going to an island where there are trees with abundance of fruits, I probably would give other stuff but since he or she might be going to a deserted island where only almost-dead trees and dry soil are, I’d send chocolates and canned food off with him/her. Then, maybe some sun cream and tents since the sun will be burning. Tents might also help when it’s raining. After that, I’d give him or her a pet. Either a dog, a cat, a rabbit, a zebra, a hamster (not likely since it might be lost and never found), a guinea pig, or lizard. This will keep him/her company and feel less lonely. The loneliness of surviving on an island alone is very well portrayed in the movie Cast Away.
The last thing I’d give him/her is a Wilson volleyball! This decision of mine is greatly influenced by the movie Cast Away too. The volleyball actually acted as a best friend in the movie!
Oh wait! Please let me add another one. I’d send off him/her with a fishing stick since there will be fishes around the island. It’d be really frustrating if you only could see the fish swim around when you’re starving. Now my best friend or close relative is ready to go! Even I’d want to leave to a desert island with all these items. It’d be fun! I hope I get the chance to live on a desert island for a short period of time later. Maybe I should add that into my bucket list.
You’ve been given a key that can open one building, room, locker, or box to which you don’t normally have access. How do you use it, and why?
The first place I thought of when I read the prompt was a safe. I think this is where everyone would first think of. (Sorry for the generalization.) However, having the key to the safe doesn’t mean I have the access to the safe. There would be guards and CCTV 24/7 surrounding the safe if the safe contains somethnig worth stealing. The safe I’m referring to is of course, a safe of a huge bank where I can find billions of dollars. Also, stealing is bad, so no. Not the safe.
I had to think for a while where I would want to unlock.
I’d want to unlock an ancient tower or castle where the king and queen and prince and princesses lived happily in great wealth a long long long long long time ago, but hasn’t been discovered yet. I want to discover and explore the royal tower myself. I’d try on the crowns and lay on the princess’s bed (or not, because the bed might be too dusty). The best part would be, I get to keep all the jewels and treasures found in the tower! It wouldn’t even be stealing because it wasn’t discovered by anyone before.
I’d earn so much money out of all the treasures, jewels, and antiques and be rich! Not only that, but I’d also be famous for discovering the uncovered tower of the ancient times. How nice is this. One key giving me all the riches and fame I could never ask for more.
I might even just decide to live the tower. I could use cleaning up center to clear the tower from dust and spider webs and move in my own furnitures. If I live alone, I’d have some Rapunzel feels. Haha. However, I love my family so I’ll take them with me into the tower and the family lived happily ever after. Amen.
Fill in the blank: “Life is too short to _____.” Now, write a post telling us how you’ve come to that conclusion. (Thanks for suggesting this prompt, theempathyqueen!)
“Life is too short to hate!”
I’ve had so many situations in my life that got me so angry and frustrated that I couldn’t concentrate in anything I do because of the anger boiling inside. There was a time when I fought with my older sister over something I don’t remember anymore. After the fight, I sat alone in my room staring at the computer screen for over 20 minutes doing nothing because I couldn’t afford to do ANYTHING. I hate feeling that angered. Unfortunately, this happens to me a lot of times. I think it’s because I don’t express it right in front of their face that I take longer time to extinguish the boiling hatred.
However, I found that this hating wasted a lot of precious time of mine. I could be using the time staring at nothing everytime I’m angry to do homework, play computer games, or simply read a book. The feeling of hate will only do me bad for wasting my time and disrupting my spiritual health (went a little too far? Haha). Also, it’d be losing if I’m stressed over someone more than the person is stressed over you. I wouldn’t give that much thought for the person I am mad at to show I’m not affected by the fight we had. From now on, I will act cool as if the fight we had didn’t even have a slight impact on me. Also, when I am mad, I should learn to say that I am mad in the person’s face instead of being angry alone in my room myself.
Therefore I am suggesting that we should put our angers and hatred away because life is too short to hate!
What’s the best story someone else has recently told you (in person, preferably)? Share it with us, and feel free to embellish — that’s how good stories become great, after all.
This isn’t the best story but the only recent story I heard was this. This was from my mom few days ago. She sent screenshots of a Korean news article in our family Line group. The article was about an crash accident of the Mount Seorak Rocking Stone. I know I shouldn’t embellish articles because articles only state facts but I will embellish this article. You’ll know why later. The article (with my embellishment) goes like this.
[News Flash: Seorak Rocking Stone crashes]
Rocking Stone, one of the most popular tourist spots in Seorak Mountain has fallen by an absurd action of the tourists.
Kangwondo Sokcho Police Station requested for an arrest warrant for Gerald (42, American) and 11 others of his company for
